Hey

I’m Aubrey Grove. My husband, Tyler, and I have been blessed with six wonderful kiddos. In 2012, the Lord called us to begin our homeschooling journey, and we haven’t looked back since. We believe education goes far beyond paper and pencils or books and academics—at its core, it’s about shaping character and creating one of the sweetest (and sometimes most challenging) ways to truly connect with our children while they’re still living under our roof.

Our Story

I was a public school kid, and back in my day, only the “weird” kids were homeschooled—so I firmly decided I’d never homeschool my own children. I imagine the Lord had a good laugh at that, because here we are! We’re about to enter our 12th year of homeschooling, and I can honestly say one of the greatest blessings has been the community of support that has surrounded us along the way.

I began by running a preschool out of our home, then joined a local co-op that served our family well for a season. Eventually, we felt led to step out in faith and start our own co-op. What began as a small grassroots effort—just a handful of families passionate about the beauty and challenges of homeschooling—has grown into a thriving community known today as Fig Tree Academy Co-op (formerly Koinonia Co-op). Since 2019, we’ve been partnering together with the shared goal of supporting one another and growing more like Christ.

Thanks to the Lord’s kindness, our weekly gatherings have become rich with learning and transformation. Together, we explore the beauty and complexity of God’s creation through science, dive into the events of history, study the truths of Scripture, and enjoy moving our bodies and playing games in P.E., but even more important than academics, we witness our hearts being shaped by Jesus.

In Scripture, when Jesus encountered a fig tree that appeared fruitful but bore no fruit, He burned it up—a powerful reminder that outward appearances mean little without true spiritual fruit. At Fig Tree Academy, we carry that image with us. No matter how well-educated our children may be, if they lack the fruit of the Spirit and the character of Christ, they are no better off than a fruitless fig tree. That’s why at Fig Tree Academy, we will always prioritize Christ-like character in everything we do—especially in the way we educate our children.

How Does it All Work?

We meet once a week throughout the school year, offering fun, interactive, and comprehensive lessons in Bible, History, Science, and P.E. Classes are led by qualified teachers and are divided by grade levels: Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th, 5th & 6th, and 7th & 8th.

Once students enter high school, they begin meeting twice weekly. In addition to joining the rest of the school in core subjects, high schoolers also take part in an English/Literature class and have access to dedicated math tutor time.

Families play an active role in Fig Tree by participating in the weekly life of our co-op. Some serve as teachers or aides, while others help as lunch monitors, classroom assistants, or on the clean-up crew. Everyone has a part to play!

Throughout the year, we enjoy special on-campus events like Grandparents Day or “Backwards Day,” as well as a full calendar of fun and engaging field trips. We also hold periodic classroom presentations to encourage students to share what they’ve been learning. We’re a hands-on community that loves to learn and grow together!
